Here is one plotholder's account of transplanting seedlings:
I am more of a hands on gardener and not really much into
reading on theories about growing vegetables, and I was surprised to hear
that certain vegetables cannot be transplanted from seed. Much to the
amusement of my fellow plot holders, I told them about how I grow my
vegetables from seed, in trays, then transplant them out.
I did this with, turnip, carrots, beetroot, lettuce, radish.
In fact the carrots and turnip have been transplanted twice so far,
and they are growing great. I had that many lettuces, I transplanted them into to friends'
plots last month and they are just about ready for eating.
My secret weapon for doing the transplanting is my wee trowel.
John, a fellow plot holder and friend, visited my plot today
and had a good laugh when he saw the size of my beetroots -
they are about the size of a cricket ball and some are bigger; he seems amazed.
I felt a bit daft when I told others of what I do, and
I think they thought I was daft as well.
I am sure there is a moral to this story, but I don't know what it is :).
