Here is a fund-raising idea:
Two months ago, I looked into recycling aluminium drinks cans.
At first myself and my family collected them, and once we had
a black refuse sackfull, we took them off to the recycling plant.
Ok, we only received £1.88 but not bad for out first try.
My next idea was to introduce aluminium drinks can collecting at
our allotment site at Leith Links. The theory was that as many
plot holders are too busy to get involved in raising funds, this
would be an ideal way that everyone could participate, even
if it's just a few cans every now and again.
The recycling centre provides plastic bags for the cans,
which we crush and place into the bag, and once full we take the bag(s)
off and collect the reward. The best idea is to crush the cans as
small as possible, as you get more cash per full bag; we get around
£2.20 per bag. To date we have increased our site fund by £20.00.
We try and aim for one full bag per week and the target is £100 a year.
The can collection only works best on a collective basis,
and you will need to get a volunteer to deposit the cans
at the recycling centre, the address is -
(Just behind the LEEP centre.)
I hope this helps raise funds for your site.
