MANOR GARDENS ALLOTMENTS

Despite a long and well organised campaign Manor Garden Allotments have been lost.

The 100 year-old Manor Garden Allotments lay within the Olympic Park site. These beautiful, productive vegetable gardens are to be demolished to make way for a footpath for the 4 weeks of the Olympic Games despite the land being given in perpetuity.

The campaign tried to protect the allotments and to encourage a more imaginative Olympic development whcih includes this special place with its healthy, green lifestyles and vibrant multicultural community. Some of the allotment holders had the same allotments for many years (Reg, 70, has worked his for 54 years having inherited it over from his father who took it on 75 years ago.)

This is yet another example of the scandalous loss of allotments. Manor Gardens was a high profile campaign: how many other, less well known sites are currently trying to resist the same fate?
