EDINBURGH HOME COMPOSTING SCHEME

WRAP Up Home Composting! Did you know that up to 60% of the rubbish we throw away could be recycled, and half of that could be composted?

Residents of Edinburgh Council are being offered the opportunity to buy cut price compost bins from £5 as part of an initiative between WRAP (Waste & Resources Action Programme), SWAG and The City of Edinburgh Council.

To get their home composting off to a flying start residents will receive a handy home composting guide with their bin, full of easy to follow tips and information about what to compost and how to use the finished product. For any composting queries all residents have access to a home composting helpline and a dedicated home composting advisor.

Thomas Turnbull, Edinburgh's Home Composting Advisor says, "40% of people in Edinburgh say that they want to be able to compost at home. This scheme, supported by the Scottish Executive, LEEP and the Council, is giving them the opportunity to be able to do this. We are delighted with the response to the scheme so far - we have already distributed over 5,000 bins.

" Composting our organic waste at home will not only reduce our reliance on landfill and other waste disposal facilities but also creates a free resource that can help improve our soil, gardens and even pot plants!

We encourage all residents in Edinburgh who have ever thought about composting at home to give it a go and help us to get it sorted!"
